Years five and six have been learning all about Queen Victoria and how people lived in the early days of Victoria's reign.

We visited Quarry Bank Mill and spent some time looking around the cotton mill.  We also went to the apprentice house and found out what it was like to have to live there and work in the mill.  It was very hard work, and all of us agreed that we wouldn't like to have to get up that early and work such long hours.

Some of us were chosen to wear the clothes that the apprentices had to wear.  In the school room we had to pretend we were Victorian children and do exactly as the teacher said.  We were not allowed to look at her or speak unless we were asked to.  She shouted very loud!

Here we are watching a lady spin cotton.  This is how they used to do it in their houses until the factories opened.

Adam and Amy are trying on the clothes worn by apprentices.  Adam said that they were very scratchy.
